Our whole squad spent a few days in Manila
Before a couple of teams flew to another island
To do ministry for the month
While in Manila we lived in a wonderful place
Equipped with a full gym where I could start my day off
Then we got to our ministry site for the month
And I no longer had a gym to wake up and go to
I had a decision to make
I could either sulk about not having the gym to access for the month
Or I could make my own
Time to scrounge around
Rocks, hula hoops, paint cans and dirt
What more do you need?
I can use the hula hoops as replacements for tires to jump through
I can use rocks to help make push ups more difficult
I can fill the paint cans with dirt and use them as weights
And just like that the gym is complete
I have a special word I like to call things like this
INNOVATIVE
It’s a word I’ve used for many months now
People all around the world have amazed me with how clever they are
By making something from what seems like nothing
Every time I see something new that blows my mind
I just say the word innovative
So I figured it was my turn to become innovative
And build a gym out of everyday things
As I was doing this early one morning I had a few off the wall thoughts
You see,for a year now listening for God’s voice
Has been a huge part of my life
But it’s not always easy
Some days I have asked for a word for someone
And all I received in return was silence
Some days I have sought answers
And there have only been more questions
Some days I have asked for direction
And instead only felt more lost
But that doesn’t mean God isn’t speaking to me
I believe as my father he always has things to say to me
When I’m not hearing him it’s because I am not listening
And in those moments it’s time for me to be innovative
Because as soon as I get into a routine
I get bored and check out
I stop listening intently
Maybe being innovative in listening to the voice of God sounds absurd
But it works
Some days God speaks through the laughter of little children
Some days he guides me to a specific bible verse
Other days he nudges me to go out of my comfort zone and speak with someone
Some days he shows me his greatness in his creation
Some days he makes my heart ache until I obey him
And some days God speaks through an innovative gym
