The body has many parts
And the many parts make up one whole body
God tells us all about this in 1 Corinthians 12
But I personally wish there was no tongue
I wish I could cut it right out of my mouth
I wish the tongue was just not a part of the body at all
The body could function without the tongue
Matter of fact the body would be better off without the tongue
If there is one problem I have consistently had in life
It is with my tongue
It does nothing but get me in trouble
My tongue says words that should never be said
My tongue is loud
It hurts others
It cuts deep
It causes regrets
So I’m going to just rid myself of my tongue
If I have no tongue I can’t use my words
To bring death to others
If I have no tongue the words won’t come
And then I won’t disrupt, disrespect or dishonor
Without the tongue life will just be better

Hold up!
I should really think about this a little closer
If I do that a vital part of my life will be missing
If I get rid of my tongue
I won’t be able to do what I was created for
See, the purpose of my tongue isn’t to cut others down
Or cause harm
Or to bring death
The purpose of my tongue is to worship
I have a tongue to sing praise

I have a tongue to shout out to my father
How thankful I am for the things he has given me

I have a tongue to shout from the rooftop of my flat in Nepal
How sovereign and faithful my God is

I have a tongue to tell people that the same love Jesus has for me
Is the same love he has for them

I have a tongue to declare the freedom in Christ I have in my life
Is the same freedom in Christ these Hindus can experience

Until recently I had been overlooking the good in things
I was seeing how harmful the tongue could be
But really it is quite the opposite
God didn’t give me a tongue to bring about death
He gave me a tongue to use for his glory
He gave me a tongue and told me to use it for what I was created for
