There’s a fly at the window trying his hardest to get out.
He hits it once. Nothing.
He hits it again. Still nothing.
He flies further down the window.
Still no escaping. Still no freedom.
He doesn’t realize the window is in his way.
All he sees is the other side.
The freedom of the outside.
He doesn’t see the window blocking his way.
So he bangs.
And bangs.
And bangs.
But nothing happens.
And then there is me standing there.
I mess up in life. I make a mistake.
And I don’t move past it.
I continue to revisit the same screw ups in life over and over again.
I hit the window time and time again.
I bang and bang and bang.
I see the freedom on the other side. It’s in reach.
But I won’t stop going back to the same failures.
I dwell on them.
I keep going back to the same issues.
The fly realizes there is no escape by banging into the window.
He is not going to achieve freedom in this way.
So he flies in another direction.
Away from the window.
And out the door he goes.
Freedom at last!

So how do I get over these failures and mistakes? How do I move past the mentality of I’ve messed up so much in life?
I go the other way.
I run the other direction.
I run into my Father’s arms.
The freedom I have been searching for lies within his embrace.
My Father doesn’t want me living in this mentality of the past failures.
Jesus has set me free from these things.
So I push my way to the outside.
To the freedom.
Into my Father’s embrace.
Freedom at last!

“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.”- Galatians 5:1
Are you bold enough to ask God to help you stop banging against the window and break free to the outside? To run in the other direction and into his freedom?
