Her name is Rosemary.
She loves to hum, sing and dance back and forth.
She has beautiful dark brown eyes and a smile that will light up a room.
For the first week we were at Los Gozosos, I noted Rosemary to be the joyful, low-maintainence child. It didn't take much to keep her happy and occupied, all you needed was to give her a doll and put her in the swing.
But something changed the sixth day. We first heard it at breakfast — a blood curdling scream. Confused, I looked around to find the sound and saw that it was coming from the tiny body at the end of the breakfast table — little Rosemary was having an epileptic seizure.
She has suffered from seizures her whole life, but for the past few years the doctor had given her medicine that was able to stop them…until this morning. She had three more by lunch time.
A group of us walked into the girls bedroom after lunch, laid our hands on her and prayed for relief from the seizures and pain. She sat there on her lower bunk, rocking back and forth as innocent as ever.
After everyone left, I stayed and just sat with her. It was one of the most peaceful experiences I had since arriving at Los Gozosos. Looking at her, the Lord brought this verse to mind:
the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
— Matthew 25:40
The more time I spend with these children, the more I see Jesus in them. My heart grows more tender and my love increases. It is in the little moments like this one, where I simply sit and be with them that I feel and see more of the Father's heart. He made me and Rosemary in His image. We are perfect just the way we are.
But something that God did not make to be a part of Rosemary forever were these seizures. After that day, Rosemary had only one seizure the rest of the time that we were at Los Gozosos. PRAISES to God that He continues to heal! PRAISES to God that He does not allow us to stay the same.
My brain is mush right now, (so I'm sorry if this blog seems scattered) but I can't wait to share all that the Lord is changing in me in my next blog.
