I wish I could tell you all that I fully intend on changing the world on this trip, but if I’m being completely honest I’m feeling kind of like this…

SCARED & UNQUALIFIED!!!

On this trip I fully expect to be faced with

  • Major language barriers
  • Ministering to complete strangers (orphans, widows, homeless, women caught up in sex trafficking)
  • Being in stressful situations
  • Being thousands of miles away from family and friends
  • The possibility that I could get hurt or have things stolen from me
  • Poverty

Why in the world would I do this!?!?

I’ve lived a life of complete and utter comfort. I’ve never known poverty, and my definition of going without consists of buying non-organic foods.

The real truth of the matter is I can’t change the world; HOWEVER, I have a Father who CAN! Through the death of Christ, I have been QUALIFIED! And my Father has told me loud and clear:

Isaiah 43:1-2 He is with us at our most difficult times

This journey will not be easy! I expect my faith to be rocked…to be challenged in ways I cannot yet dream. I expect to see beautiful and new places! I expect to meet people that have a thirst that only Jesus can satisfy. I expect to learn about 11 new cultures, and to find a new family in my teammates. I expect to hear the voice of the Lord. I expect to be broken and pieced back together. I expect to find joy in the mundane. I expect to come back changed!

So my prayer, even though my journey is months away, is that my God would begin to armor me with STRENGTH & COURAGE.

As your year comes to an end, what are your expectations for 2014?
