Look around you. What do you see?
I tend to see a piece of nature, something that is alive. I focus in on that – I see the vastness of the sky above me that reflects our Creator. I hear a laugh and delight in the music of sound and life. I hear the breeze or feel the wind. I feel alive. I get caught up in the delicate, fleeting beauty of a flower. I see a leaf and the intricate design that it is made of. I think of the many atoms that make up the cells that lead to the unique structure of the leaf. We are all made of the same atoms. Our design is even more intricate and there is so much detail that goes into every part of us and plays into us being human with a healthy mind, body, and spirit.
I watched a sunrise last weekend at Phu Chi Fa, a mountain in the middle of nowhere Thailand. Sitting with four beautiful people, I watched the world spin into light. It was breathtaking. I have seen many sunrises and sunsets, but there was something special about this one. There was an endless beauty every direction you looked. The clouds slithering around the mountains in the valley below had me looking for Jack Sparrow and the black pearl on their quest for gold. The sunlight illuminating the grass in front of me filled my spirit with awe. I saw beauty that can only be seen when God touches something. The whole world around and below and within us was simply praising its Creator. The grass could not seem to stop waving and praising Jesus. A purple flower and a bumblebee danced together glorifying their Creator. A cliff loomed above, jutting out as if reaching for the heavens. Once again, I got wrapped up in the expanding rainbow as it streamed more colors and light – the sign of His covenant displayed like it is every morning and every night. Neon colors I forgot existed pull at my heart. Only an hour before, it was pitch black except for the dim twinkle of the stars and stumbling feet led the way up the mountain. Now, the land was alive again with the dawn of a new day. Hills rolled upon hills with the horizon stretching as though wandering to the heavens. Strangers paused all around us to breathe in the moment and watch the magic happen. All our eyes were captivated by the magic of illumination as we caught our first glimpse of the ball of fire that we spin around. There it was, rising, just like we will at the end of age. I mean this sunrise was more stunning than most anything.
Caught in the moment, contemplation grabs me and my thoughts roam. I see what is more beautiful than most anything to me – moments and places like this where God is so clearly evident. And out of anywhere in the world, this is where God brought me. He placed me here to watch this moment in time, a glimpse of eternity with Him. I wonder what He sees as more beautiful than anything and know in my heart that it is us. He made us in His image…He finds us more beautiful than what I see and know to be stunning. I see a person and know that God loves that person and knows them. He reaches for them. To Him, they are more precious than anything.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, that we might not perish but have eternal life.” ~John 3:16
I see that all of creation reflects its Creator. Each one of you reflects your Creator. Whatever you create or let others see reflects some attribute or piece of God. Let yourself melt in His adoring gaze. Be recreated knowing the value He places on you. He values you so much that He gave you free will to be a creature equal to Him in having the freedom to do as you will. He set us apart from all of creation and gave us authority and dominion over all the earth. Adore what we have been given in this life to see each and every day. There is a trace of the divine in everything. You have only to use your eyes to see it. Do you see the magic?
