:: a missionary’s life: dancing at weddings ::

In case you’re a new blog reader, Friday’s happen to be the day of the week that I write absolutely nothing spiritual or full of deep thought.  Nothing I write is thought-provoking… unless you think my day-to-day life is.  I write five highlights from the week.  They’re senseless and have everything to do with nothing… but I enjoy them.

So here they are:

Snow.  If you know me well, then you know how much I don’t like snow.  I’m the kind of guy who would love to stand in the front yard with a flame-thrower and melt it all as it’s falling from the sky.  And before you get on me about snow being “beautiful”, let me remind you of the nastiness it looks like when it’s been driven upon.  It turns black, dirty, and gross.  Nevermind the fact that snow is always coupled with frigid temperatures, of which I am also not an avid fan.  All of this to say, that it snowed this week and it’s freezing.  Move me to Texas for the winter, please… oh wait… it’s snowing there too!

Braedon Tabor.  Before you freak and out wonder why another man is a highlight of my week, let me just remind of a contest him and I entered with each other a few months ago.  It was: whoever puts on the least amount of weight by the next time we see each other, the loser has to buy the other dinner.  Sounds simple?  Not so much.  Gaining weight is hard for tall skinny guys with abnormally hyperactive metabolisms.  But all that to say: I’m packing on the weight.  It’s involved a lot of gym time and too many of those nasty shakes… and lots of food.  So, Braedon Tabor, you’re going down… I think I want a steak dinner.  I love steak.

Getting married.
  Now, now… I’m not getting married.  My friend from the World Race, Rachel is getting married.  So I drove down to Cincinnati yesterday afternoon and am preparing for a wedding.  I love weddings.  I absolutely love them.  The downer?  They make me want to get married.  But the other cool part about this wedding is that a lot of people from my World Race squad are here.  What’s cool about that, you ask?  Put us together and we know how to party.  I laughed so hard last night…

Dancing.  It’s kind of unfair to do this, but… this highlight kind of goes with the wedding one AND it hasn’t even happened yet.  I’m eager to dance.  Why?  Because I can’t.  I know there’s probably going to be dancing at this wedding and I’m into trying new things.  So I’m going to give this a shot.

Polar Bear Plunge.  Lastly, and most awesomely, this past Saturday Mark, Jake, and myself (they’re my roommates) did the Polar Bear Plunge in Lake Huron.  Basically, it was like 30 degrees outside and the lake temperature was 44 degrees.  Why did we do this?  It was for a charity (we found out once we got there) and a lot of people do it.  It’s one of those things that you’ll never do again, but you have to do at least once in your life.  Needless to say… it took a LONG time before I felt my feet again.  No, they didn’t turn purple, but I checked my feet once we got in the car to make sure I didn’t have any fish hooks sticking out of them.  They were completely numb.  Bucket list: check.

P.S. I’m in the process of looking for people to pledge support for me for 2010.  This is my latest idea: $20.10/mth. in 2010.  Basically, I’m looking for 100 people (or less) to support me for roughly $20 a month in 2010.  Would you like to be one of these people?  If so, send me a message and let me know, or go ahead and sign up here.  Thanks!
