This has probably been one of the busiest weeks I’ve had all month! The fact that I’ve even been able to stay on top of anything has been an absolute divine miracle from God. It doesn’t help that I have ADD when I sit down at my desk. (Not clinically diagnosed, just lack the self-discipline I need sometimes).
We were victims of a drive-by shooting. Now before you jump out of your seat and shout obscenities towards the heavens for my safety being compromised let me add this disclaimer: it wasn’t that kind of shooting. Mark and I were sitting in the living room late the other night watching Conan O’Brien, Dave Letterman, or something… when all of a sudden we heard a very loud smack on the front window. It sounded like someone threw a rock at the house. Don’t worry, we shot up out of our chairs like canons! It startled us, but then we immediately went looking through the windows for a punk to beat up. Ended up being paintballs. Someone paintballed us. Actually, someone paintballed half of the town that night. We were one of many victims of vandalization.
Volunteer Banquet. Wednesday night I went and helped with the volunteer banquet at church. We’ve had countless volunteers this year who have logged well over 10,000 hours of work to make church services and community outreaches happen. Being a staff member, we wanted to serve all of the volunteers… kind of turn the tables a bit. You could tell that these guys weren’t used to being served. The banquet theme was that of a volunteer awards show. Rusty and Ericka Jackson MC’d the thing. And John Flemming, one of the most awesome guys ever at church, made a series of videos called “volunteers gone wrong.” It’s hilarious! This is an example of what pastoral counseling would be like at Cross Current…

Barnes & Noble – my love affair. I have this really bad addiction. It’s an addiction to books. In fact, two weeks ago I went to Barnes and Noble “just cause”… and walked out with two books. I went back the next day… and walked out with another book. I’ve noticed that the number of books I buy is contingent on the number of hours I spend in the store. It’s a bad habit – truly. All of this to say that I got two coupons via email for 25% off, plus the member discount. The saddest news ever? I didn’t go in either time. I had two chances to save over 50% TOTAL… and I didn’t. Such a slacker.
Headed back to the 316. Thanksgiving is coming up and there’s a lot that I’ve been thankful for this year (such as people like this). But I’m going home to Kansas (316 is the area code of the city I grew up in). Is my mom excited? Yes. My sister excited? Of course. My dad? You bet. Am I? Heck yes I am…
Exactly one year ago today my adventure with the World Race ended. It’s been exactly one year since I left Thailand and headed back to the States, ending one of the most transforming years of my life. My dear friend Caroline wrote a blog about it. I’m just beyond thankful for it. I’m beyond thankful for the things that I’ve learned this year. It’s beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. I love my life!
