Well it’s the end to another great week and I’m long overdue from one of my fantastic weekly updates. Having been back in Wichita, I have some really cool highlights. You’re going to love them. Here we go:
Coffee shops. One of the things that I really enjoy about being in Wichita is that there are dozens of coffee shops that I can plop my amazing butt in. In fact, in most cases, I’ve become a regular (again) at three of them. I usually do my morning work at Meads Corner, afternoon work time is at Starbucks, and late night writing times have been spent at the Vagabond. You can’t top good coffee shops. Mead’s has the best coffee though – hands down.
Storms. One of the things that I was most looking forward to about spending some time back in Kansas was watching a good storm or two roll in. We’ve had two or so this week. I don’t think people really understand Kansans’ fascination with thunderstorms here. They’re intense. Sunday we ended up with downed trees all over town. The lightning’s always fierce, the thunder bone crushing and the rain is nothing but a deluge. It’s awesome.
Sunsets. You just can’t beat a Kansas sunset. Why, because you can watch the entire thing. There’s a reason Kansas is flat. It’s for watching sunsets. And there have been several God-painted sunsets this week. Maybe I’m a wussy guy for thinking that sunsets are beautiful, but I love them. Get over it.
Dinner with mom. I actually got to go to dinner with my mom (Darla) last night at the Olive Garden, one of my all-time favorite restaurants. We had some really good conversation. It’s none of that sissy-surface-level junk; it’s deep-hearted stuff. We talked about insecurities, what it means to be a Christian, trusting God and all kinds of other things. We even talked about marriage! I love her a lot.
Worship. Yeah, I wrote a new worship song. But I need a second person to sing it with me; it’s kind of a two-part thing. Any takers?
