ceremony last week, he teared up as he told about how long he had been waiting
for this day and how happy it made him to see it finally come to pass.
witness this day’s event and share in the joy. The place was buzzing and everyone was excited to be

president, or the opening of a new school building. Nope. It was the first time
this community had access to clean water.
They were dedicating the opening of a water well that would allow them
to have access to potable water.
A lot of things hit me hard that day. As I stood and listened to people give
thanks for what God had done and watched children fill up their water bottles,
I realized how amazing this day actually was. No longer would people have to hike great distances to get
clean water. No longer would it
take them hours to fetch water…time they should be using to go to school or
work. No longer would they get
sick from water that isn’t safe or sanitary. No longer. They
now had a basic necessity met that freed them up to do other things with their
time and energy.
It’s hard to explain the gravity of what this well
represented to this community. We
don’t understand when we are able to go to any one of the 10+ water sources we
have in our home…all of which are clean.
This wasn’t our well or part of our project even. It was put in motion by another team we
“randomly” (I say randomly, but I don’t believe that for a second…thank you
Jesus!) met here in Kenya. They
mentioned they had helped drill a well near where we were living and we knew we
had to check it out. Turns out
that two days after we met them they were dedicating it….right before they
headed back home to southern Georgia.
As we celebrated with them that day, I couldn’t help but
think of the celebration that will one day happen in Camp Vision. They need access to potable water just
as badly, if not more. I can’t
wait for that day to come…a day that will mark the start of a new life. That’s one of the many reasons I
am here. Why God speaks clearly to
keep pushing on and fight for them. He has some great things to do here…and we get to play a part in it.
