This past weekend we hosted the first of our six “5K for
Kenya” races. The races are to help
raise awareness and support for the Kenya Initiative project. This race was held here in Georgia with a
large amount of help and participation coming from the Adventures in Missions
community and surrounding network.
Personally I’ve never run in a 5K or hosted one, so I don’t have much to
compare it to. However, I thought it
went well and most of the feedback we received was positive. It takes a fair amount of work to set up a
race, but we had a great time and felt like it was well worth the effort. We are hoping to apply what we’ve learned from
this race to the others we are going to be doing in our hometowns.
We had just under a hundred people sign up for this race and
we are hoping to get even more participants for the other races. We are looking for business who’d like to be
sponsors financially or donate gift certificates, coupons, or food for the
races. The Cincinnati race is going to
be on May 14th, 2011. I’ll be
posting more information about this soon.
Thank you to everyone who ran, volunteered, and cheered us
on during this event. It has been a
great start to our fundraising and we look forward to what’s ahead.
