Stung Mien Chey is a place that many people don’t know about. I only discovered it one week ago myself. It is a place off the beaten path and you would never know about it unless you were looking for it. And who would look for such a place as Stung Mien Chey? Someone who wants to serve the poor. Someone who wants to be an encouragement. Someone who wants to bring revival to a lost community. And so this is where I went this past week. I didn’t go necessarily because of the people I knew I would meet, I don’t know any Cambodians. I didn’t go because of the ministry that we would be doing, I didn’t know what to expect. I went because of a story that captured my heart. It was this story that the Lord spoke to me to go. He said, “Like Isaiah I am asking; ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I replied, “Here am I. Send me!”

A World Racer in the July ’08 Squad wrote this blog. Her words captured me and I chased the Lord’s call for this past week. Here’s that blog that spoke to me so intimately:

The Words of Ali Page…

It was pouring rain. We prayed that people
would still come even though it was storming. The front of the church
was pretty much a mud pit despite the big tents we had put up. Our one
man worship band tuned his guitar and warmed up as the masses of
children gathered around. God had been telling us for weeks He was
going to do mighty things and change lives through this revival. This
was our last day in the slums and the most exciting day of the World
Race for me thus far.

We built relationships with the people who live in Stung Men Chey
(Rubbish Mountain) for the month of October. We washed their lice
infested hair, we taught hygiene,  we gave them clothes, took them to
the dentist, encouraged them, loved them, loved their children,
listened to them, prayed for them, and told them about Jesus’
never-ending love for them. They wanted more.

Our worship leader plugged into the amplifier, after the generator
arrived, and began playing music in Khmai (the language of Cambodia.)
And , the rain stopped and the sun came out. Curious people started
popping up from all over as they heard voices singing praise and an
electric guitar. Children dragged their parents to the church. Amy
spoke a powerful Spirit lead message about God and who He is and how He
loves them exactly as they are. I was anxious to see how God was going
to move. I felt something building. All the people came who we had
worked with and they were ready for more, something big.

(Our worship leader and translator TR, and Natalie speaking)
We sang praises to the Lord and spoke messages to them. At the
Spirit’s prompting, we invited those to come forward who wanted to
follow Jesus for good. Every single adult came forward. My mouth
dropped open as more and more came forward to accept Gods love into
their hearts. My team and I prayed for each one. We also prayed healing
for those of them were sick. We saw miracles that day. We saw lives
changed. We saw people come alive for the first time.

A woman who had a growth over her eye now could see, and the
growth disappeared. A woman who had hacking coughs that caused her to
pass out and prevented her from swallowing was restored. Her eyes
bugged out in shock as her throat opened. A man who we had seen in the
community as an angry hell raiser came forward in what I can only
identify as a Godly love. He professed his love for Christ and
proclaimed the joy that filled his heart. He challenged his neighbors
to let God in. A woman’s complete disposition changed before our eyes.
Her hardened angry face morphed into a peaceful acceptance to her
Savior.

(Melanie praying with a woman who is receiving Christ and woman to the
left had her entire sipostion change from anger and empty to a joyful serenity)

I am Praising God for these people and their love for Jesus.
Thank God for what He did that day. Pray God would strengthen their
walks and speak to them. Pray they would go to the Lord continuously
for every need.
