Greetings,
So we’re officially here in Peru! I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to share about my thoughts and feelings to be down here. Our whole team arrived safely and all baggage intact. Praise the Lord! So here it all begins…….
We arrived in country on the 5th and since then we’ve been fully immersed in the culture. After a brief sleep we were racing on the first day. So with an itinerary in hand and a few soles (Peruvian currency) we were off on a journey that lasted pretty much the whole day. On our race we bartered taxi rides, ate some local Peruvian food (squid I think!), relied on strangers, toured a monastary, and went whitewater rafting. It was a wonderful day for as I was literally threw into the culture.
As I reflect back on my brief time so far in country, I thank God with all my heart for the my answer to prayer that I’ve been praying for the past few years. I’ve been longing for a trip back to latin america and now I’m finally here. I absolutely love the culture. To put it mildly, I feel like a kid at a candy store. I’ve already had the chance to play a little soccer, enjoy some laughs with some kids, and of course bonding more and more with my teammates.
So now what?? Well we were given a short tour of the local area today. It resonated alot of things in my heart. The area we’ll be working in is near the town of Chincha. An earthquake hit this area on August 15th and 6 months later there is so much devastation still here. We saw the physical part of it in the rubble that was once a vibrant fishing community, and even had the chance to briefly meet some of the families here.
So stay tuned for more reflection as I strive to show you my heart as God works in it and reveals to me the great things He has planned for me. Of what I’ve heard and seen in my 2 days here so far, my heart has already been rocked. I don’t expect it to stop anytime soon………
