A few months ago as I was leading a trip in the backcountry, my group scrambled to the top of the island we were camping on. I lead a small devotional and directed the group in a time of personal reflection and solitude. So as I got everyone setup, I wandered out on my own to spend time with God. All I remember from that expereince is frusrtation as I tried to stay focused on what God wanted to say to me. I had a hard time concentrating on what I had set out the time to be…….a focused time slot in our busy day for God!

I have a hard time with schedules. Especially if it’s for something that I feel shouldnt be limited to “time”. Now I do believe that life has to have structure but when it comes to our faith walk, we can’t limit God! I’m the kind of person that will stop in at a friends place for a few minutes and end up justifying a few hours less sleep that night just to stay longer and continue an encouraing conversation. The next day I look back and thank God for that person and their insight. But when those times are few and far in between, I get lazy! When you live a lifestyle that is different from one day to the next, it’s hard to keep a routine or schedule.

Basically you need to have consitency when it comes to your walk with the Lord….but you also have to recognize and pursue those times when God takes you off your scheduled “time slots”. In my experience it’s not always about reading from the Word or going to church….it’s quite often the people and surroundings around you! We all pursue God in differnt ways. The important thing is that we do pursue Him!

Please pray for me as I strive to have consistency in my walk! When I go with the flow there isn’t always that grounding that I very often need.
