Every now and then God does something that just blows our minds. For some of us this may happen on a more regular basis. Others once in a lifetime. Some of it depends on our faith, what’s by chance and what’s a miracle, and just our individual idea of Gods active role in our lives.

In January, my team learned about “The Greater Glory.” Little did we know
at the time that these three words would change our month, our race,
and our lives. It would soon greatly alter our faith and the overall
outlook on our future. All thanks to a man who I grew quite close to and
learned to love dearly, Pastor Joseph Mwangi.

As we held in tears and said our last goodbyes following possibly, the greatest month of my life, Joseph told us to be ready for the greater glory. The what? “The Greater Glory” he says “God never promotes you to demote you.” At the time I didn’t know what to think of it.

As the race has continued I have seen this play out in my life and the lives of my teammates. Today, over Cambodian lake oysters and coffee, Jodi, Marissa, and I were talking about our past experiences and greater glories. When do we bite on what God puts in front of us and when do we saddle up and keep going? What if we miss the boat?

I immediately thought of Christmas growing up. What a blessing it is to have parents that even after I am gone through their actions are teaching spiritual lessons.

On Christmas Day I always had too many gifts to count. However, I could never open them in the order that I wanted. My mom would hand them out to us. Sometimes, I would get that number one gift early. Exactly, what I needed and wanted. It could keep me busy or happy until next Christmas!

Does this mean I don’t open any other gifts? Of course not.

Good thing too. Sure, the gift on my list may have been my favorite. It may be the one that I go back to and use the most, but I guarantee you that it wasn’t always the most important to me. My parents would always give me something they had picked out just for me. Unique. Something that I could use. Often a Bible, book, cross necklace, something that meant a whole lot to me and even more to them that I have it.

It was something that would become irreplaceable. Had I quit opening what they had for me I would have never felt their love in that way. The smaller gifts often meant more from them than the ones that were bigger in my eyes.

The Greater Glory. God doesn’t promote you to demote you. If you feel demoted look at it through different eyes. Receive the small gifts because their is tremendous love behind them.
