I’m sure many of you are wondering what my plans are after The World Race. If not, then feel free to stop reading immediately.

As you may or may not know, I studied music at the amazing Elon University and graduated from said institution a few months before coming on the race. While there pursuing a voice degree, I kind of stumbled into and fell in love with composing. I stumbled some more through a thirteen piece composition for my research project with a ton of help and guidance from my mentor, Dr. Coleman, not knowing if the outcome would even be worth performing. But it was performed, and I knew from that time on that there is nothing else that I would ever be able to do with my life. But what does that actually look like?

I initially felt like the next logical step would be to move to Nashville and start performing. But more and more over the course of the World Race, I’ve realized that I need more of a foundation. I have taken the year to take a step back from music, and it has affirmed my passion for composing. But at this point, I’m not really as equipped as I want to be. I believe that the next step is to study composition at the master’s level.

So, that’s what I’m going to try to do. It’s going to be hard. I’m going to have to work my butt off to make the December 3 preferred deadline. I have absolutely no doubt that, if this is really the direction the Lord is leading me, he will enable me to get it done. So, in an ideal world, I will be attending the California School of the Arts starting in the fall of 2014. It’s going to be tough just getting in because I didn’t formally study composition at Elon, so please keep me in your prayers.

Thank you for all of your support! It really has meant a lot to have people actually reading the blogs that I’m writing. I hope to do a picture blog (internet permitting) to sum up the year in the next couple of days.
