In Romania, one of our ministry opportunities involved going to a local university and reaching out to the students there. Again, this time taught me it is not about numbers. Some of the time seemed as if we were doing nothing as we sat amongst each other talking. But, God reminded me there is freedom and it is not about works. We can be ourselves and allow God to bring about the conversations with exactly who he wants. We ended up splitting our large group into two as there were more of us than university students (final exam time). Some went directly into town during the mornings while the rest of us continued to go this university. I felt called to still go to the university even though nothing had really happened thus far.

Soon enough I knew the reason I was there. A few of our guys talked to a man who said he was Catholic. This man is the marketing manager for the university. I walked up during the conversation and heard him talking about only speaking with Mary and not Jesus. How he believes you go to the mother of the son because she knows the son the most and thus can provide the right answers and wisdom he needs. My teammate spoke truth. As this man spoke I could feel God saying, no, please talk to me. I long to talk to you and to hear your voice. I died so you could have complete openness and fellowship with me. That him talking only with Mary is not embracing all that Jesus did on the cross. God desires relationship and fellowship, that is why Jesus died. So we could be reconciled to Him. As we left that day, the man was on my heart.

We returned to the university a few days later. As final exams were beginning, less and less people remained on campus. I wondered if I would see him again.   I said to God if I see him again I’ll know you have a word for him. Soon enough I saw him pass by me on his way to the university cafeteria. I knew God had a word for him.  I wrote down what God had to say. God just poured His heart out saying how He longs to speak with him and that he is missing out on a beautiful fellowship with his savior.   God wants this man to go right to Him with everything. After I wrote it all down, I prayed for courage to go up and give it to him. Let me just say, the butterflies did not go away! As I approached him, he was in a group of people, so I called him over to me. He came and I told him I had a letter from God that was for him. He looked at me sort of quizzically and I said, yes, it’s from God. He took it in his hands and said okay, thank you. And that was it, I walked away knowing God’s after him. My teammate Nicole said while I was talking to him, she sensed he was hungry and open. I felt I had completed what God wanted me to do.

My teammate Mike had a word for the university students as well, so he wrote it down and then we left it on a table in the cafeteria, trusting God had us write it for a reason and that He will work in whoever reads it or hears about it. We left feeling our mission was complete. Later we found out that was our last time going to the university due to it being exam time and few students being around. We were excited to know God had worked it all out that last day. It is just amazing to be a part of what He’s doing everywhere. I never would have thought I would be at a Hungarian university in Romania giving a word to a man about  talking directly to Jesus. God is good.
