Thailand ended up being a great month, even though most of the time I had no idea what I was going to do each day. Ministry this month was different because it was just us girls from the team living with almost all the other girls helping out the same organization, Light House In Action. Each team had different responsibilities as far as when it came to ministry. Our focus for the month was to teach English, go talk to students at the local college, and build relationships with the girls who work in a coffee shop we lived above. Well lets just say we ended up only doing one all month because things would get canceled. However, I would not trade anything for the relationships I ended up building with the girls who worked in the coffee shop.
I was very lucky to be able to help Light House in Action. Emmi, the founder of it has such a great heart for people, especially the women in sex trafficking in Thailand. She would like one day for her coffee shop to expand so that she can hopefully give the girls jobs who feel like they have no way out of a life of selling themselves. While bar ministry was not my main focus for ministry I was able to go out at least a few nights. Bar ministry is when people go out to build relationships with the women and try to show them that they do matter and that people do care.
Even though throughout the month things weren't as organized as I would have liked it to be I had the time to go on prayer walks and speak with people I would have never met if I were doing something else. One example would be one afternoon my friend Sarah and I decided to go on a prayer walk because there was nothing else to do and we ended up having an unexpected conversation. While going on this prayer walk we decided to stop by all the temples we walked by and go inside them to get a feel for it and pray at the same time. Well one temple we walked into there was a monk who we sat down and talked to for about an hour. Even though we didn't get to share what we believed we sat there a got to hear his heart. I believe that he just needed someone to listen to him with what all he was going though and that having us there to listen made his day and ours too.
Life is full of unexpected things that can happen and it's all about how we take it in. If I would have looked at last month as a failure, or if I would have been frustrated the entire time because of not knowing what to do I wouldn't have met the monk and I would not have built the friendships with the girls in the coffee shop. Focusing on the negative in life doesn't do any good and last month I learned to be flexible with what's going on around me. Things don't always go as planned and sometimes you just have to learn how to let go and move on because there is most likely something better than what you could have imagined.
I still need $3,430 to be fully funded. If it is placed on your heart to donate please do so at the support me link to the left. Thank you! 🙂
