Favorite memory so far on the race: My favorite memory actually took place during the first week of the race. They always warned you that you would have a “poop” story at some point during the race- very insightful people. It was a clear blue sky, the birds were singing, sun was shining, coffee in hand, and the beach was calling my name. Well, turns out it wasn’t the only thing grabbing my attention. It became very apparent that I needed to find a restroom quickly! I didn’t want to pay 30 cents to use the public bathroom, so I began barging into shops asking to use the bathroom- in very broken Spanish mind you. I made the mistake of not asking to use the restroom because I could clinch no longer. I went for it. As soon as I sat down, a mob of Colombians bang on my door and I then realize why… There was no running water. I panicked for a second, finished what I set out to do, and faced these angry ladies. It was probably a good thing that I couldn’t fully understand what they were saying- I just know I was in big trouble. They took me to the back and made me fill up a bucket of water as they barricaded the door until I flushed every particle. This was difficult as I had to watch the water fill in the bucket drip by drip. It took everything in me not to laugh/cry. 30 minutes later they brought me water from some hidden area to complete the job. Although I learned an important lesson that day, I am forever grateful for that memory! By the way, my teammate was shopping during this whole escapade and pretended not to know me- I don’t blame her J
