1) Always keep alphabet cards in your purse
2) The crazier you are, the more you keep the kid’s attention
3) Going back to the basics- Emotions, colors, ABCs, numbers, directions, etc
4) Thinking on your feet. You never know what type of kids you will have or what level they are at. This week I have 6th graders, tomorrow kindergarteners, and 4th graders the following day. You have to be ready for anything (including criers, hitters, and distraction makers)
5) Colored pens are the best for learning colors
6) I have never wanted a kids book in English so badly
7) Any resource is amazing. Paper is the best. There’s a whiteboard, SWEET!
8) Hugs and high fives are wonderful in all languages
9) Silly songs in English are always effective even if they have no idea you are singing about a moose who likes juice.
10) If your classroom has AC it triples your kid’s attention span and your endurance
11) When you finally hit your stride on a game and contemplate if it’s worth the risk to change it and try to explain something new… celebrate the moment first then move on
12) If you shake your head yes to a kids request it usually that they have to go to the bathroom or get a drink… or at least I think so
13) When all else fails have a dance party
