Adversity

Isn’t it so great how God shows up exactly when you need him? This week I was in despair about being able to do the World Race. People aren’t behind me and the support is not coming in, for instance. I have had only $150 in my account since 7/11 – almost a month. I posted something on my squad’s blog last night asking for advice about how to deal with opposition. I got some very encouraging notes that lifted my spirit. Right after that I logged onto my WR account to check my support balance. (When I first started I would check it 10 times a day, now I do it once at the most…) I had a $100 donation given the day before! Just now I checked my balance again and there was another $25 donation! Praise the Lord; He is good.

Over the last couple weeks I have lost focus; I have forgotten who is in control. The One who calls also provides for His purposes – that being, in this case, for me to go on the WR. I was so focused on raising the money that I forgot God is who I should be seeking first.

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to
          you.  ~Matthew 6:33
(I think I even posted this previously – I need to read my own blogs!)

And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul
and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You
shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and
          the Prophets.”  ~Matthew 22:37-40

My thoughts are:
Essentially, if I do these two, everything else will follow. If I am seeking Christ first then I am completely in His will. That doesn’t mean I should sit around and do nothing – I know I will have to fundraise. But focusing entirely on that – and what’s more, fretting about it – is not part of God’s will.

This applies to all of us in all situations. We must keep our eye on the prize and the call of God on our lives (Phil. 3:14).
