You read the title correctly.
I hope you die – to sin.
Die to yourself so that you can really live.
Does that sound like a catch-22 to you? It did to me the first time I heard it, too.
Die to the sins that wrap themselves around you and chain you to a life you were never meant to live – one of pain, agony, hopelessness, of separation from your Creator and eternal Father.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23
Die to the sins that hold you captive. Die to the self that believes you are on your own. Die to your passions that are greedy, self-serving, and hurtful. Die to the lies that Satan has fed you.
How do you die to your sin instead of because of it?
“For if we have been joined with Him in the likeness of His death, we will certainly also be in the likeness of His resurrection.”
Romans 6:5
Admit that you have sin and your sin creates the need for a Savior. Admit that you cannot save yourself. Believe that Jesus Christ died for your sins so that you won’t have to die eternally. Believe that the sacrifice Christ made on the cross is enough to save you from the eternal penalty that sin carries. Believe that Christ died and rose again, beating out death once and for all for you. Confess your sins, ask Christ to be your Savior, then believe that He is. And then, you will be dead to sin.
Then, you can live. You will live in the freedom of Jesus Christ. You will live in the freedom that comes when your old temptations and your past no longer have a hold on you. You will live in the strength of Christ, not the weakness of the flesh. You will live as a child of God.
“For we know that our old self was crucified with Him in order that sin’s dominion over the body may be abolished, so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin, since a person who has died is freed from sin’s claims.”
Romans 6:6-7
You will live.
“Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him, because we know that Christ, having been raised from the dead, no longer dies. Death no longer rules over Him.”
Romans 6:8-9
But you need to die first, and I hope that you do.
“So, you too consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 6:11
Die to sin, my friends. I’d love to share eternal life with you.
If you have questions about salvation, you can always shoot me an email at: [email protected]. I would be delighted to talk to you!
P.S. Dying to sin does not mean that you will never sin again. You will. It means that sin can no longer separate you eternally from God. It means that Christ in you is greater than sin of the flesh. You won’t be sinless, but you’ll be forgiven and redeemed.
P.P.S. I realize a lot of you probably didn’t expect this kind of post on my World Race blog instead of something about fundraising or preparation or expectations, etc. However, I realized that some people who may find themselves reading my page will be non-believers and it was laid upon my heart to write this post. I want to extend the invitation to freedom in Christ in black and white to all who may come upon this blog. If you have already accepted Christ, perhaps take this moment to thank Him again for His unfailing grace and be renewed in knowing that you are ALIVE – physically and spiritually.
