I had the amazing opportunity to visit one of the most relaxing places I’ve ever been – Caye Caulker, an Island in Belize. We took a water taxi from San Pedro (another beautiful island destination). In Caye Caulker we met with Pastor Oscar, a Spirit lead man who loves the Lord with every fiber of his being. But first, let me explain how we even came to hear about Pastor Oscar.
We arrived in San Pedro, Belize after travelling 22 hours of travelling. You can imagine we were tired, and as we waited for a taxi to take us to the YWAM base (that had agreed to take us in) we talked to some tourists. They had noticed all our gear, not typical tourists, and asked where we were from. They were Canadian! (On the Race I’m always excited to meet Canadians and Belize is full of them!) They were vacationing after spending a week working with Samaritans Purse. Looking back, it was pretty cool that the first people we speak with on the Island were Christians who had just finished doing ministry for a week. We exchanged contact information. Wanda and Claus connected us with their Samaritans Purse contact, who then connected us with a few pastors in Caye Caulker.
Richelle and I had the privilege of going to Caye Caulker for meeting. We met with Pastor Oscar, I truly believe the Lord had intended for us to meet. From the moment we met him, we could see the Spirit of the Lord in him. He radiated with joy. He talked about his life, his ministry, and how the Lord had changed his life. We are all parts of one body, and he is a leader, a teacher, a pastor. From being a ‘church member’, he was called into leadership. Richelle and I sat with him for almost 2 hours, hearing about the goodness of the Lord.
On the Race you meet many, many different pastors, leaders, and ministries. Sometimes the programs blow you away. Sometimes the church members inspire you. Sometimes the location refreshes you. Sometimes the worship restores your soul. And sometimes the Spirit of the Lord in people makes you hunger for more of Him. Makes you desire to live in the Spirit every moment.
Pastor Oscar radiated joy and overflowed with the Spirit. I am so thankful to have met him. I am so thankful to have sat and listened to him for just a little while. The word the Lord gave me for this month was LISTEN. As I met with Pastor Oscar I understood why.
Pastor Oscar’s church, Iglesia Shekinah, has been growing! The Lord has given so much freedom and life to the church. They support the elderly through home visits, kid’s ministry, various outreaches, evangelism and discipleship, as the Lord leads. Things may look different each season, but the Lord’s leading never changes.
