11 Months 11 Countries sounds like quite the epic journey…please let me reassure you…IT IS!
Over the 11 months my squad will be travelling to 11 different countries, on 4 different continents. And although each country and continent will have a unique set of challenges, one thing will remain the same…it won’t be Canada! Everything will be different…being in different environments and changing cultures will become the norm over the next year of my life.
On a mission trip to Thailand back in 2007 I was hit with some major culture shock, something I wasn’t really expecting. I couldn’t talk to ANYONE! Those who know me know that I like to talk to EVERYONE!
As I prepare to embark on the World Race I can see how God has been preparing me for this journey. Over the last 4 years a large portion of my clients have been new to Canada. I have worked with families from Iraq, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, China, Turkmenistan, Libya and the list goes on! I have become much more comfortable with other languages. Most of the time I am comfortable trying to say words (I get it wrong a lot). Or I will ask how to correctly say a name or phrase (again, I get things wrong a lot). (Please let me clarify…languages are not my forte!) Working with such a diverse population has been an amazing opportunity, I can see how God has been using it to prepare me for the World Race and to live, function, and thrive outside of Canada!
The countries my squad is scheduled to visit, in the order, we will be visiting are:
- Swaziland
- Botswana
- South Africa
- Estonia
- Latvia
- Cambodia
- Thailand
- India
- Nepal
- Guatemala
- Nicaragua
