HELLO! I’m Marley Melhus, I am 20 years old (21 in September), I am from Portland, OR, and I’m going on The World Race in Janurary 2017 (ROUTE 3)!!! As of right now I am a sophomore in college; I am getting my ASOT and I am taking all of the pre reqs for nursing.
I’ve always wanted to go on a Mission trip, like ALWAYS, but I just never had the chance. One day a good friend of mine texted me out of the blue and told me about the race-she was really excited about it and told me that I should do it! So, I applied! I didn’t really think I was going to get accepted, BUT, I did and I’m here now. Once I was accepted, I was like…”YAY!!!… wait.. this is 11 months…that is so long..” So then I prayed and prayed, and asked God, “God please give me a sign of whether or not I should go!” As if getting in wasn’t a big enough sign, but a year is a LONG time without my family and friends, and opportunities with schooling and many other normal and basic things that happen on an everyday basis in my life. A few days went by and I heard the phrase, “PEACE BY GOD, NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS,” and at that point I knew that whatever choice I made, I would be OKAY, and I couldn’t give this opportunity up!
4 main reasons I am going on the World Race-
NUMBER ONE – I want my relationship with God to truly grow, and I want to learn more through Him.
NUMBER TWO – I love to travel, and adventure.
NUMBER THREE – Helping people is my passion!
NUMBER FOUR – I want to become more independent and learn things about myself that I have yet to discover.
RANDOM FACTS ABOUT ME-
I love soccer, and sports in general
I coached my brothers soccer team over the years
I have two brothers (London, 8, Braiden, 11)
I have one sisters (Bailey, 17)
I have a mom (Jen), and step dad (Kurt)
I worked at a summer camp (Camp Thunderbird for boys) for three summers
I work at Providence, which is a non-profit health care organiztion
I attended Oregon State University for a year. GO BEAVS!
I currently attend community college in my home town.
My family (extended family included) means the world to me
I hike regularly; always up for an adventure
My favorite color is green
My netflix binge obsession is way too real
I am 5’1″
I love lame jokes-they get me everytime
