What would it look like if we lived to seek the face of God rather than just His hand?
How would our lives be different if we approached our Creator in awe rather than squeezing Him into a fifteen minute block of time before bed?
I have been so greatly convicted of these two things lately. It’s been difficult in this process of preparing for the Race not to get caught up with support raising, not to worry and attempt to do everything myself, not to spend my time with the Lord focused on requests for Him to meet my financial & emotional needs.
This evening I sat out by the pool as twilight fell, my legs dangling in the water, crickets chirping over the warm breeze rustling through the trees, and watched each star appear in the night sky one by one. And I have to tell you, for the first time in a very long time, I was broken. Broken and humbled and in awe of the sheer majesty and greatness and wonder of God and all that He has created. Broken to the point that I felt like I could truly open up my hands and entrust the things I have been holding onto in my life with the One who holds the stars. I’m finally getting back to the place where I can see and taste the goodness of God and trust, through good times and bad, that He has every aspect of my life under His steady gaze and care.
I don’t want to seek God anymore for what He can give me or how He can change my life for the better. I want to seek Him because of who He is…His essence and Being. So I’ve been looking at some of the names of God, how He is described in Scripture and the qualities Man has observed in Him. Read through this list of names found in the Old Testament; let your eyes be opened to the glory of God. Then try, as I have been trying, to worship Him for who He is rather than what He can do for you. Let the focus shift from yourself, back to…
