Since I became born again I have struggled to understand why we don’t see more healings in the church?

Why, if one of the names our Lord claims is Jehovah-Rapha (the existing one who heals), in Ex. 15, “I am Jehovah-Rapha, the Lord that heals you”, does He choose to let the helpless remain unhealed when Jesus has brought healing?

This is a question I have asked for wisdom on a ton while working at a cerebral palsy (CP) orphanage here in Antigua.  Why, when I pray and ask for healing in Jesus name, do they remain “unchanged”?

This is what I feel the Lord has been speaking to me on this subject and it has brought me peace:

Our Father, Jesus, is a God who redeems!  This is at His very nature, to take things that have become broken, and make them whole once again.

This was His plan, in Christ, with man once Adam failed.

And it is His plan with the world when He establishes His kingdom.

So why can’t I see more of this kingdom now?  “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done…”

Why does He wait, especially with people who are apparently born, “broken”?

Well let me start by addressing that they are not “BROKEN”.

The greatest gift we have been given as men and women is our ability to receive and give Love.  And as anyone who has seen a cerebral palsy child or adult can tell you, they receive Love better than anyone I have ever been around.

Their whole world changes, noticeably so, when they are being loved.

I feel like this is their role in His Kingdom on this side of the restoration.  They are men and women who allow others the opportunity to love them, and they receive it well.

When you love someone you are changed as much as the person you love.

There is a reason the two greatest commandments are to love the Lord with all you are and to love ones neighbor as oneself.

So when I see these CP children and young adults I don’t see a “broken” individual.  I see someone to imitate.  I need to let people love me so that they can be changed.  I want to be someone who appreciates people.  To be someone who receives love well and recognizes my dependence and need for people around me.

These CP patients have taught me so much about the nature of God, and I know they will be rewarded justly by my Father, because he is just and a giver of good gifts.
