I just received an email from my Dad about my youngest sister Leia (17), which I’ll copy and paste here (it’s just easier):
- Mark,
- We need you to pray for Leia. She is OK but is in
the hospital. She was in a crash and was air lifted to Royal Columbian. We are
praying for her brain and eyes. She is responding properly so her brain is good
but they are monitoring for swelling. After tomorrow that danger should be over.
She is sedated to let her heal with minimal disturbance to blood pressure etc.
She is able to nod and even shrug and indicates that the pain is ok (morphine)
but she doesn’t like the breathing tube. She can breath fine on her own but they
have it in so they can control her blood gasses when she is sedated. Brenna even
got her to laugh a bit. The plastic surgeon has planned to do repairs to her
face on Friday, she is confident of a good outcome. Leila’s nose jaw and
eye sockets are broken. Her neck is OK. The accident was Sunday afternoon, she
was on her way to Mission for a Dance competition. She seems to have lost
control on a narrow corner (Harris Rd) and hit a boat and trailer being towed by
a pick up. No one else was injured. - Mom is doing really well. I am the basket case
this time. Please don’t think that you need to come home, I know you will be
upset. The doctors are taking good care of her. We will be OK. I think you have
a powerful group of praying people right where you are. Many people are praying
for her here too. Even the police from Abbotsford. I can’t describe how
overwhelming it is to call them all and let them know how things are going but I
can do it so far. - Again – no need to come home. Leia is very strong
and healthy. She is not in danger of dying. - I love you very much and so does your Mom and the
rest of the family. - Dad
- Just had a call from Mom at the hospital – One eye
is functional but may need repairs – the doctor thinks it is fully repairable.
They have called for another specialist for the other eye (left) so we don’t
know yet.
Please be in prayer for my sister, for complete healing, and for my family too. My parents got to go through this in progressively worse degrees with each of their kids, so in some ways they’ve done it, in others it’s just way too much. I talked to my other sister, and she says that there is still no sign of brain damage – she recognizes people and can wiggle toes or fingers etc. when asked to. The first 48 hour threshold is the biggest thing, and that’s almost over. There is a very poorly put together news clip from the local paper online at http://www.bclocalnews.com/fraser_valley/abbynews/news/Woman_airlifted_to_hospital_Harris_Road_accident.html that pretty much just shows shots of the vehicles and footage of Leia being wheeled to the helicopter by about 10 emergency people for anyone interested. Thank you everyone for your prayers.
