Interview with Tara Bruce – Miami to Palenque

Location: Palenque, Mexico – Shekinah Bible School
Time Frame: Now until the end of July
Ministry: Training & Loving on locals

The Shekinah Bible School is owned by a husband and wife who have lived in Mexico for 6 years devoted to pastoral training. The space is mostly a training center, as well as a location for retreats.  There haven’t been any other people besides our squad this week, not sure about the next couple though.
It only costs $20 pesos/person/night here = $2 American dollars, not too bad! Our daily budget of food and lodging per person is $7 and $3 for transportation. Given that all those things are pretty cheap here but more expensive in other countries, we are trying to live on as little as possible in order to save for later in the year. We walk into the town of Palenque almost everyday for internet, food and to meet the locals = 30 min walk there and back.

The locals here live decently from what I can tell. There are plenty of cars, nice clothes, etc. But,  I’ve noticed that not many people smile or seem very happy. This week has been hectic with training, but we hope to get into town more often this month to learn more about their needs. As far as I know, we will be the ones to look for ministry opportunities while we are here. The school we are staying at is under construction, so we hope to help with that as well.
