It was my turn to lead Bible study and I decided to talk about a woman named Deborah. Deborah was one of 12 judges of Israel. I'm not sure if man or God appointed them as rulers, but I want to go with God. If I'm wrong, please let me know! So Deborah was Mrs. Independent in the Old Testament. She clearly states in Judge's 4-5 she doesn't need a man to help her guide a whole nation. Deborah is known as "the mother of Israel and God's spokesperson." She is married to a man named Lappidoth, but the Bible doesn't tell much about him or if they had children together. I assume that he had great respect by people if he was married to Debs. In Israel during this time the Canannites weren't treating the people very well. Debs didn't like it, so she wanted to do something. Barak was in charge of an army but was very hesitant to go to war. I think he was fearful of what would happen. Deborah was a prophetess and that definitely helped guide her decisions in war. Barak came to Deborah and asked for help, she agreed but said a woman would win victory and he wouldn't get honor for it. They continued to proceed and long story short, a woman named Jael ended up stabbing Sisera (leader of the Canaanites) in the templed and died. I mean, she committed a bloody murder. With this action taking place, Deborah led Israel to peace for 40 years. Deborah is a woman of faith, justice, courage, and power. Her authority is gentle but fierce. She didn't want to conform to the world, but draw near to Jesus and follow His commandments. She is stable and strong in many ways.
Yeah, I want to be like her. Someone spoke that over my life, and I want to receive it and believe it. Her testimony is crazy cool and a great woman of the Bible to look up to.
Who do you look up to?
