Hello all!! We just got back from our trip from Binga, Zimbabwe! We spent about 2 1/2 weeks there, which was a royal treat! How to describe Binga..? Well, besides schools, children, and lots of rain… there isn’t a whole lot there. Our mission in Binga was to share the Love of Christ, as well as to help construct two housing developments if you will.
About a week into that process (of shoveling, building cement bricks, cooking over a fire, and trying to get the truck that was hauling a load of dirt to be unstuck), we ended up going to this woman’s house.
Upon arrival we saw two women and two younger boys and then our group of world racers were told that we needed to pray for them. I had volunteered beings I told God I wanted to step more outside my comfort zone. So, I actually wasn’t sure as to what to pray for– I even asked them and they said just in general you can pray for us. I then proceeded and what came to mind was to love them. I had mentioned that several times within my prayer but I wasn’t sure why. I had no idea as to what that meant or what that tangibly looked like.
When I was done praying we noticed a woman who had approached, and she asked us if we could come to her home and pray for her, so we went! I had taken notice of the fact that she was blind and so I thought, “here we go God, you’ve been putting healing on the whole teams hearts, so let’s step outside of our comfort zone and pray for a healing!!” 🙂
We did just that, and I waited expectantly for her to start crying (as I imagined that would be the tell tale sign of her receiving her sight back). However, that never happened. She actually wanted us to come over and pray for her leaky roof.
I was a bit discouraged because nothing happened, but I know that God is good and faithful and perhaps it’s not within the timing that we are there that it would happen. We went back to her house the following week to see how much it would cost to fix the roof. We got an estimate as to how much straw we would need and we went happily back to the orphanage. The following week after that we went back to the house to see if the man that normally stays with her had returned- to see if he can fix the roof.
However, when we had arrived, we were a bit confused.. The house that we had originally prayed for was no longer there.. we thought, “are we at the right house?!” We then noticed the pile of sticks laying in the ashes and we immediately were overwhelmed.. we asked the woman what had happened and she said that she was trying to get rid of the bugs via fire and the whole house burned down….
Talk about a real mood crusher.. we were confused and sad for her, but she carried on with a great big smile on her face. We asked her if she knew Jesus and she said, “oh yes!!” We then asked who she thought Jesus was, and she said “God is my protector, redeemer, and provider- in Him I take refuge.”
We were amazed by the amount of joy and contentment that she had!! We have since thought about how to best serve her even after we’ve left and we’ve come up with prayer, but in all honesty- praise for whom the father has created her to be. She served us with joy and peace in the midst of a challenging situation and that shows true colors. I am truly at awe for this woman’s faith, but I am delighted to have met her!
Please be in prayer with my team and I as we seek out a way to bless her, even if that means through our prayers! I know that God is good and faithful and I am filled with hope that he saved her from her house fire for a reason! She is currently staying in the mans house that watches over her sometimes, but I’m not sure for how much longer she can do that.
Thank you all so much for all of your love and support! 🙂
