Off days on the world race tend to be filled with the never ending search for good wifi. An average week looks something like this –

5 days of ministry

1 day of adventuring

1 day of rest (looking for good wifi to call home or upload blogs, videos, pictures, etc.)

Our Monday rest day started out just like any other. We had what seemed like a solid game plan for shopping in the market and successfully finding the elusive wifi hotspot. But God had some different plans. On our walk to the market our group steadily began to spread out. A couple people were about 100 feet ahead of me and a couple more were about the same distance behind. I kept a steady pace in the middle and walked alone. Before I knew it a young girl crossed the street and began walking beside me. She asked me where I was from and we began talking. Her name is Taslia and she walked and talked with me almost the full 45 minute walk to the market.

A few facts about Taslia

  1. She is 16 years old
  2. She is studying to be a doctor
  3. She was not in school this particular day because her mom couldn’t afford to buy her the new shoes she needed in order to be allowed to go to school
  4. She has a relationship with Jesus
  5. She had no Bible in her house

She hung around with us while we souvenir shopped in the market. A few of us bought her a small gift from the market and one of my squad-mates gave her the money to buy her school shoes.

After our time in the market we went to go look in the Christian book store across the street. There we purchased her a bible and we all highlighted our favorite verses. She hung out with us almost the whole day and we had the opportunity to bless her. It amazes me how God sometimes puts a person in your path and even though you only know them for a short time, no matter how brief they leave an impact on you. I went that day to find wifi and call home but God knew that we needed to meet Taslia. He put us in the right place at just the right time and because we allowed our lives to be interruptible we were so blessed to be able to bless Taslia in that way.
