We had the opportunity to go to the local city dump in order to pass out food to the people and make relationships with them. When we arrived, the pungent smell of burning garbage met you along with a swarm of flies. It was a very hot day that day. We met a few of the people, they all had their sticks with them to file through the rubbish. We started to pass out the food, at first only a few people came, then a few more and little by little they came.
I went with one lady to her house carrying some extra tortillas for her children that were in school. We walked a path of garbage to her house. Upon arrival she quickly covered the tortillas before the mass of flies swarmed around it. I was able to meet her daughter and son, both too young for school at this time. The little girl had a delightful smile and the boy was quite proud of his new white shirt. We chatted for a while and then asked if we could pray for them. The mother said yes. I prayed as much as I could in Spanish and then switched to English. I don’t know how to explain but the Spirit of the Lord was in that place and I was moved deep in my soul. I continued to pray the Lord’s love and blessing over that family. I pray that many more would reach out to them and display the Lord’s great love for them.
