The ministry for my team is in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala for the month of August. We are staying at the local Christian radio station and basing our ministry with a local church connected with the manager of the station. To our delight, a YWAM group from Destination Paradise is also staying at the radio station, so we are able to combine ministries every now and then.
This past weekend was one such opportunity. The YWAM group and our team went up into the hills surrounding Puerto Barriors to stay the night in one of the local villages. We did some dramas and testimonies for the service and a kids program the next morning.
During our time there I was so blessed to meet a beautiful girl named Blanca. This wonderful women of the Lord who was 16 years old showed me what true selfless service looks like. For whatever reason, I can only determine that is was the Lord, she chose to serve me. So what did this service look like? Every time we walked, she was at my side. She carried my Nalgene for me even though I told her she didn’t have to and that I could take it. Anytime the path had a difficult step she would dash in front of me in order to lead me and offer her hand for stability. She would always climb into the back of the truck first in order that she could offer her hand to assist me and the same for when we would get out of the truck. She was so attentive to whatever I needed. Her service was above and beyond what I have ever experienced.
As I sat there in the church that evening contemplating what had happened that day, I asked the Lord why was the act of service done for me? I sense the Lord telling me that He wanted me to see what true selfless service looked like, much like Christ, in order that I would reflect that to my team. Blanca showed Christ to me, she layed down her agenda in order to be at my side. The challenge comes in being able to apply that to my life and live it out among my team members.
Lord I pray that you would help me to show Christ to all those who are around me especially my team. Lord I pray for your strength and you grace. Lord I pray that I would be filled up with your love that I could pour out into the lives of others. Lord I love you and I need you. Thank you for your amazing love that covers a multitude of sins! Thank you for you grace that is given so freely. Lord I pray that my life would bring you glory. Amen.
