About 2 months ago we arrived in the Philippines, and I have loved it ever since I stepped off the plane.
We are working with an organization called KIM (Kids International Ministries). Most of the ministry is revolved around kids. There is a children’s home (like an orphanage), the JAZ girls, community kids, and children that live here at the base that we are living at. The children’s home is full of kids that just need love. They don’t get out much so we have the chance to bring them over to the pool or to play games, or even out for ice cream or to the mall or to a movie. The JAZ girls are girls that have been raped or sexual abused. KIM found them and took them away from their situation and gave them a safe home. They are all so great and so much fun to hangout with. Outside the gate where we live, there are constantly street kids wanting someone to play with or just some attention and love. We bring them in to swim, play games, color, ride bikes, read books, etc. There are also kids that live here at the place we do. So they are always around to spend time with. In addition to all the kid ministries, we also are involved in feedings and construction work. Feedings are when we go out into the community with some kind of soup stuff (porridge I thinks it’s called) and feed children and their families. Construction work is also something KIM does. I had the chance to mix cement (with shovels) and help pour in a roof on a home.
Overall the main ministry here is to love on the children and build relationships. I have learned that you don’t need to go out to do ministry or share God’s love, you can find ministry wherever you are and with whoever surrounds you.
I’m sorry for the delayed update, and I know it was short, but I’ll be home in less than a month so you can ask me all your questions then. (Maybe wait a couple days after I get home). Hopefully I can remember the last crazy 9 months of my life.
Sending the warmth and sun your way from the Phil 🙂
