I made it through the first month of Africa! And it has been one of the best experiences of my life. I was very apprehensive about coming here but God blessed my first month so much and it turned out to be way better than I thought it would. God is good! I was blessed with another great place that had a bed and a bug net, a bathroom and a real shower with hot water. Although there were huge spiders, cockroaches, scorpions and weird millipede things, I survived. Our host was great, and the people were all so wonderful. And best of all God answered my prayers of wanting to play with little black children. There was always kids around where we lived and it brought me so much joy every day.

We had many different ministries. One of them was helping with a children’s program which was right at the place that we lived. We taught them bible stories, played with them, and danced ALL the time. We also did water filter visitations. This is when we would walk to villages and they would show us how their water filter works (which are from Michigan!) and we would just pray for them and the village, and give them any encouragement we had. Every Sunday we took turns preaching and teaching. This definitely put me out of my comfort zone but God filled me with peace before I spoke and spoke through me. On Wednesdays we had a discipleship program which was just like a bible study with the people of the village. Another ministry we had was door to door evangelism. This isn’t always easy because people have different religions and you can’t always just share Gods word or a bible verse. All the ministries were great and I have definitely grown here already.

Besides the constant swarming of flies, I really have nothing to complain about, and I praise God for that. Although it is not easy being away from home, He has filled me with His joy and peace and I pray that he continues to do so. I also want to thank all of you for your prayers, they have definitely been felt this past month.
