Most days I still can’t believe I’m living in El Salvador. It is still so surreal to me that I am here. I would have never thought this is where I would be a year ago. Although some days are challenging, I am quickly reminded that God is always there, and as long as I depend on Him I will make it through this journey.

I am living in the capital city (San Salvador) in the ministry building, so I am blessed to have a bed and bathroom with a real toilet and shower. (Still getting used to the cold water though.) We go shopping at a grocery store and the market for our own food. We eat a lot of pb&j. The people who work here are great, and we get the chance to start our days off with prayer every morning with them.

Our main ministries are football (not kidding) and an after school program. The three of us girls on my team are part of a girls flag football team. We practice and have bible study with them. Working out together is a great way to build relationships, and the girls are all so amazing; it’s so much fun to spend time with them. The after school program is for teenagers caught up in gangs. We have a cooking and an English class, in addition to devotion and recreational time.

We have done many other things including cleaning churches and missionary homes, painting a staff member’s house, and we also visited a children’s hospital. The hospital was definitely my favorite. We all got together and dressed up and sang and danced to goofy songs to bring laughter to the kids in pain. Seeing the kids faces light up with smiles brings you so much joy.

God has blessed me and everyone else with His beautiful creations. On our off days we get to adventure out into the country. So far I have hiked down and up a volcano (probably my closest to death experience), gone to the beach, jumped in some waterfalls, and jet skied in a volcano crater. This country is so beautiful and I am so amazed of the things God has made. (Look at my pictures!)

I know God has a lot planned for this year and although it scares me, I am excited to see all the amazing things He does here and in my life.
