Instead of snow on the ground, rain falls heavy on our tin roof cooling the day, thankful for God’s version of an African snowstorm

Instead of waking up Christmas morning in a cozy bed at my moms house on White Bear Lake, I will be waking up under my mosquito net on a cement floor

Instead of driving to Maplewood Mall to spend 100’s of dollars on gifts I wasn’t even sure people would appreciate, I walk over an hour to the local market to buy a Coke Light and a chocolate bar, knowing that they will be more excited than any expensive gift I could have bought

Instead of heading out to Montana with my family, I will head into the fields at 5am to plant food that will feed and sustain an entire family for months

Instead of my stocking I’ve had since I was a baby hanging from our fireplace, our used socks hang on a rope down our hallway

Instead of ham, stuffing and a large feast, we have fried chicken, coleslaw, PB&J’s and coke which is surprisingly more satisfying than any feast I’ve ever had

Instead of driving to church for a late night Christmas Eve service, we walk out the front door and worship under the mango tree with candles

Instead of worrying about the stresses of the season, I finally spend a Christmas seeking Christ and I begin to see the true meaning behind Christmas

Merry Christmas to everyone back home!
