I never imagined I would lead a choir, nevertheless an African gospel choir. After spending 4 years in my high school choir, I finally realized I really had no vocal talent and decided to forever end my singing career, until now…

When Pastor Victoria asked us to help lead the choir we all were a bit frightened. None of us had ever led a choir or had much musical experience. Since Ashley is one of the only people on our team who can actually sing we decided to nominate her.

I decided to help her out so she didn’t have to go at it alone. We decided we would teach them a couple new songs, choosing one of my favorites, Amazing Love. This is a song that has been significant in my walk with the Lord.

This was one of the first Christian songs I had ever heard and quickly became my favorite when I first became a Christian. It was a song I would play continuously in my room in the 7th grade and still every time I hear it I am reminded of the excitement of becoming a new Christian.

If you had told me back in 7th grade that one day I would be living in Africa as a missionary teaching this song to a gospel choir, I would have laughed.

But here I am, teaching the song that I clung onto so many years before to an excited choir of women with beautiful voices—I am continually learning that God works in funny ways.

He will take you to places that you could never imagine going, if only you will let Him lead you. I pray that everyone has moments like this, where they step back from what they’re doing, look around and laugh with joy at the path God has led them down.
