Our team has already overcome a lot this month. After recovering from a sickness that took us out the dump for a week, Wendy sadly found out that her mom passed away. I have never lost someone close to me or been with someone when they find out such tragic news. It was intense and something that will impact me forever.
We moved out of Friendly’s guesthouse (or Friendly’s funhouse as we like to call it) and are back at KIM ministries to recuperate as a team.
Even though we’ve only been together a few weeks now, we have become such a strong, beautiful team of resiliency. While this month has seen its hardships, there is a season for all. Verse 3:1 from Ecclesiastes beautifully sums up this past season of our race:
For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:
a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
a time to break down and a time to build up;
a time to weep and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn and a time to dance
While there has been a time to mourn, we have also found many times to dance:
..at the cemetery when they made each one of us go in the middle of their circle to do a dance while they all laughed at our “moves”
While there has been a time to weep over the loss of a beautiful woman there has also been so much laughter:
…the explosion of laughter after one of us goes "OH CRAP…I mean literally" and runs from the room
While there was a time where our bodies were breaking down we also found so much healing and a time to build up:
…being blessed with a place to go at KIM ministries, where we get three meals a day with dessert and hot showers
What an amazing season of my life this has already been—I am thankful to God who leads all of us through different seasons. What an amazing promise it is that even in those difficult seasons, His love will forever carry us.
