So why do I have a password on my blog?
The short answer is that it is simply a precaution. For those of you who do not know, Vietn@m is a closed country. All that means is that foreigners are not allowed to teach the bißle or ©hristianity to locals. So since I am here on a tourist visa teaching english I am fine. I have to be careful with what I post and send in emails however, because connections between me and our hosts can be very easily made if I use “searchable words” (the ones I’ve been censoring). If they are already monitoring my hosts and I send an email to them or post something with a searchable word, regardless of whether or not they were there, it automatically connects us. So I just make my social media look like a touring english teacher…done!
The worst thing that would happen to be if the Vietn@mese government didn’t like what I was doing, would be that they ask me to leave. It would be a huge bummer. But there would be worse consequences for the organization I am partnered with. Again it is not illegal for them to be Chr!sti@ns. It is not illegal for locals to evangeliz∑ to locals. It is illegal for them to host us with the intention of us ∑vangelizing to the students. To be honest I don’t really know what would happen to them, but I know at the very least they would be asked to stop operating at their current locations. Not to mention future w0®ld R@ce teams would not be able to come here.
So we just use common sense and don’t overtly e√angelize. We teach english club. And it’s amazing! They need it so much and it is a blast. My job is to not draw unwanted attention to anything we are doing or to our host organization.
I hope this was clarifying and not terrifying. I promise I am safe! Vietnam is a beautiful country with incredibly welcoming people!
Thanks for keeping up!
Until next time, Gig’em and God Bless,
Maggie
