TAMBO
DE MORA

I
want to start my telling you about the ministry we are involved in
here in Peru. As you know there was an earthquake here and we have
come to meet the physical and spiritual and emotional needs of these
people. After the earthquake thousands of people lost their homes,
their property, and their possessions.

CURRENT
CONDITIONS OF TAMBO BE MORA

The
people are living in shacks…this is not an exaggeration. They have
dirt floors with cheap tarps as walls and ceilings. When it rains
the water drags the tarps down so that the tarps break or cause leaks
on the possessions they managed to save. Therefore, their belongings
are still being destroyed little by little. They do not have running
water so they are dependent on people to fill up their community
tanks. Also there are very few bathrooms available to them. A swarm
of flies surrounds each toilet with a smell that is stomach turning.
If these conditions weren’t bad enough the people are being eaten by
fleas (myself included). Fleas are a huge problem here. It doesn’t
help that there are so many stray dogs and cats who scratter the
fleas everywhere.

Tambo
de Mora was a prosperous fishing community before the earthquake but
since the homes and equipment were destroyed and much of the property
is under water it has been hard for the families to get back into
business.

The
children are running around barefoot dodging the holes on the dusty
streets and the random droppings of the stray animals. Tambo de Mora
is full of sickness much that can be treated but the care is not
available to them due to lack of income.

So
there is so much to be done here but God has called us here and has
paved the way for us to do His work. As you continue to read you
will hear all that God is doing in the lives of the people here in
Tambo de Mora!
