One and a half month ago I came to Guatemala to work with youth that live in the streets. During the first week I met Gerson, a 17years old teen with drugs addiction and streets addiction. From the first day Gerson and I started a nice friendship and God keeps him present in my heart and my mind, and in every pray I did; he has been in my head all the time.
Gerson is very sweet to me and all the girls in my team. He is very gentle and friendly with all of us, he is also a joker and his favorite activity is to play ONE. In one of our conversations Gerson told us which is his greater dream, “to get wed, have a child and get a job.” He also said that for him it was very important that his wife would be faithful to him as he also wants to be faithful to her. Despite all the probles he has in his life he dreams with something better, with giving abetter life to his future family.
One day Gerson was crying in the street, he was crying desperate for his father, he cried and cried and cried; when I asked him why he was crying he told me that he wanted his father to take him to rehab. That is cesrtainly not an easy decision to take, to get out of the streets it is not easy, but Gerson knew what he wanted, he wanted to change, he wanted to be better.
I have been praying for weeks to see a change, to see a difference being made in the life of this young boys we are working with on the streets, and God started to answer my prayers this week. God works in misterious ways, last weekend Gerson was assaulted and stabbed on his head and he is alive just by miracle. I saw him on Monday and his wound was still slightly open, but something had changed in Gerson, there was fear inside of him and he was no longer so high as he usually was. On Tuesday I could not see him but the miracle happened, Gerson took the decision to get off the streets and now he is in rehab. This is a very important decision, but it is only the beginning of a long recovery, for which we are all praying.
Gerson is a young boy that has become very important to me and my group, we really love him. We want to ask you now if you would join with us in prayers for him, so God can be in control of the decisions Gerson takes from now and on, that God may have control over his heart and that He removes all addiction to drugs and living in the streets from his life, so we will all be in unity in prayers.
Love,
