Well folks, in 3 days, month 1 will be over! I cant believe it! Its gone so fast! It is so beautiful here in the Philippines. My favorite thing ever has to be riding on top of the jeepney’s. Just in case you don’t know what a jeepney is, it is like a bus that all the seats have been taken out of and instead there are two long benches on either side and you can sit on the top. Of course, we always sit on the top. Today was especially awesome. Its warm here and there is a breeze but the breeze is real warm too. Jenn and I went to Tanay to run a quick errand and we sat on the top of the jeepney, which for some reason is hilarious to all the people here. I don’t know if its because girls never ride on the top or if its just because we are so obviously american or both. But we don’t care. Its awesome. Something about being up there is just so freeing and peaceful. You can see so much of the land. The wind is on you the whole time and so is the sun. For some reason every time I ride a jeepney I just feel so at peace. I love to put my face up towards the sun and my arms up and just feel free. Even for a moment. Today I ate two donuts on top of the jeepney so that automatically made it even better.
This month I have met some of the most amazing people. Everyone here is so nice all the time. Random people sitting next to you will just ask if you want some of their snack just because they genuinely want to share. Seriously the nicest people I’ve ever met. This month I have also made new friends, picked up a poisonous frog on accident, rode jeepneys and trikes, seen several waterfalls, saw someone try and trap a 8 foot long cobra, learned some tagalog, ran into someone from Chicago, seen bugs that have horns and look like something from Lord of The Rings that you could ride into battle on or something, drank straight from a coconut, went to a festival, saw a cock fight, done karaoke, and so many other awesome things. We are even trying balut this week. Its um….food….basically a fully developed chick embryo and u crack the shell and slurp it up. Ill let you all know how that goes.
I will never forget about my life here in the Philippines and all these amazing people. Im excited for what Thailand has in store for us next! We find out who our ministry contact there is on friday! WOOAHH!!!
