Spices….

My heart is glad when spices abound…

But lately, one has been on my mind more than others…

Mustard!

Did you know that it will take over a garden when it’s planted?
So much so that Jewish law forbade planting it.

When Jesus said that heaven is like a planted mustard seed,
do you think the Jews balked?
Do you think they got it?

You see, I think it means that once you choose to follow Christ,
such an easy, small conversation,
(Hi God, I believe in You,
I believe I am not perfect & I mess up,
I believe You love me & came to earth,
You died so I can be with You.)
that suddenly a huge garden erupts in your life.
SO BIG NOBODY CAN MISS IT.

But mustard is a hard seed.
To release it’s power, it must be
ground, broken, crushed.

And this is the same in the life of a Christian.
For kingdom to come
on earth as it is in heaven,
you must be
ground, broken, crushed.

Matthew 13:31-32 (New International Version)

The Parables of the Mustard Seed and the Yeast

31He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. 32Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and perch in its branches.”
