Have you ever worked so hard you could drop? Have you ever been inside with 7 other people for days on end doing physically exhausting work? Have you ever been overwhelmed by a project? Have you ever had to work with people whose language you didn’t understand?
Have you whistled while you worked in the above conditions?
For the last 2 weeks, I have been working with my team in Dublin’s Lighthouse, a program of Dublin Christian Missions. The task in front of my team has been to assist Rocheanne, the program director here, with putting his vision into action. Rocheanne has huge dreams for the Lighthouse even though he’s only been working here for 4 months. His charge to us was to spring clean the building, reorganize all the clothes donations, paint the clothing rooms, clean out a storage area, and keep up with day-to-day operations of interacting with other volunteers, organizing food donations, feeding the homeless/needy of Dublin 3 nights a week, and leading worship during those times. Whew! I think we all had our doubts about how much we would get done, but with just a few days left we’ve gotten most of it accomplished. Amazing!
I think the reason we’ve been so fruitful in our labor is because we are loving life here. We work hard & we play hard. We totally have adopted the attitude that if you have fun while you work, then the work is a lot easier.
Here are some examples:
Filling up a Skip!
Getting ready to paint!
Spring Cleaning!
So, I know you are wondering… YES! It really does help to play dress up while working! It also helps to have a team committed to being a blessing with every action. Most importantly, it helps to have an amazing contact like Rocheanne! I have had a great time at the Lighthouse and am sad to see that my time here is nearly finished.
Now, get back to work! Don’t forget to whistle!
