D, is a lady I met in Pira’s grocery store the other day while picking up some snacks before returning to church. D is from Florida and sounds like she is from, my home, the state of Texas. She blessed my heart so much for the few minutes I got to spend with her. D had a spirit and a Texan draw that brought me back home for a moment. I have been missing home a lot lately and just being able to hear her and be with her for a short moment was really refreshing. : ) I know I must sound pitiful but I think some of you will understand what I mean.
As I walked into Pira’s, I went straight to the juice section. As I stood there looking for a specific juice box, behind me, I heard, “What are you looking for hun?”. I turned around and told her what I was looking for and she said, “it is in the back on the right and when I get finished paying I am going to talk to you for a bit.” I laughed.
D finished paying and made a bee line for me. After telling me a little about herself, she asked me what I was doing in Africa. As she talked, I realized we were the loudest women in the store but I didn’t care. She then said, “honey I am going to pray for you.” As she prayed for me, I felt sudden comfort and empathy from her. She was definitely the loudest one in the store as we stood on the can aisle. She continued to pray and wrote the emblem of the cross on my forehead and prayed safety and rejuvenation over my life. She was loud, sassy, dry and just home. It is amazing what seeing people from home will do for you. Being able to chat and pray together with D brought life and energy I didn’t know I needed. As I heard D’s voice and stood in her presence, I felt immediate contentment.
