the ministry of the beloved
to the Kalinga-Crossover Ministry, the women/entertainers that they work with they call BELOVED.
they are a ministry that works with the victims of prostitution and offers them Jesus and opportunities for a way out of the entertainment scene. we are partnering with Kalinga and working alongside our ministry contact Marita. She has been so great. She is beautiful, naive, kind, optimist, and a lover of God. She has taught me so much about kindness and love towards others. She is an extremely hard worker and sees ministry everywhere so rest little.
The main office of Kalinga is on the 4th floor of the health department of baguio city. The health department requires the women of the entertainment industry to come in every week and take various tests checking for std’s, pap smears, etc…because of that the ministry has an opportunity every week to get to know the girls of the clubs in the city.
We started our first week with doing an info fair in which we got to know the beloveds.
Our team had several tables set up informing the girls of various opportunities including, ALS (alternative learning system), computer skills classes (we were giving those), dreams (encouraging the girls to dream and to go back to college), counseling and prayer, a table informing them of a seminar being held informing them of their rights as a woman int he Philippines, and also a table informing them of the final day of the fair on Friday which we were hosting for them called Beauty for Ashes. It went rather well. We met a lot of girls and we were also able to do a few night outreaches to the clubs and get acquainted with several girls that would come to remember us and get to know us.
we also had the opportunity to teach some of the ALS classes that Martia’s ministry provides. Ellen and I taught science twice and a couple of the other girls taught math. It was a lot of fun.
it was a week where we were intentional of trying to get to know them and trying to point them back to Kalinga and Marita and the other staff. It was a week of trying to get them excited and committed to our Friday event. We hoped to have a good turn out but also so much more than that praying that God will make that day look glorious however that may look.
