Today a dear friend from the coffee shop we are volunteering at offered to give a few of us a tour of Ho Chi Minh. One of those places was the Cu Chi Tunnels.
The Cu Chi Tunnels are an incredibly intricate network of connecting underground tunnels located in Saigon, South Vietnam, and are a part of a much larger network of tunnels that underlie much of the country. The tunnels were the location of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War.
The tunnels were used by Viet Cong soldiers for hiding during combat. They were also used as communication and supply routes, hospitals, food and weapon storage, and living quarters for many North Vietnamese fighters. I began to think of freedom as I crawled through the suffocating Tunnels.
Underground tunnels.
Underground churches.
People of this country have been hiding for so long. They are desperate for freedom. They are desperate to come out of hiding. They are desperate to know we are safe with Him. This country has hidden from enemies of all kinds.
But God delivers us from our enemies. This life is a battle, but God doesn’t ask us to hide – He asks us to come out of hiding, we are safe with Him. When we have God on our side, we have no fear towards our enemies. If God is for us, who then can be against us? He makes us brave.
Before we give our lives to God, we are slaves to sin. But Jesus came to break chains and being freedom.
