Last week our Pastor/contact in Kenya took us to Kitale
General Hospital for ministry. We
stayed mainly in the pediatric wing and prayed over all of the babies/young children
and their parents that were sitting with them. Most of them were there because of illnesses such as
Malaria, Pneumonia, or Typhoid. In
each “block or room of beds that we came to there would be about 8-10 beds,
and two children occupied many of the beds. We would spread out, each praying for a different baby and
then we would meet back at the front of that room or “block. The parents were all very accepting of
our prayers and eager to let us know what was wrong with their child.
In one of the blocks I noticed 2 of the beds of children did
not have parents sitting or standing near the beds. In one of the beds, which was near the front of the room,
there was a little boy who was about 4 or 5 years old and he was sitting next
to a baby. The other unaccompanied
bed was in the very back corner of the room, and there was another child who
may have been 1.5 yrs old. After I
had prayed for a different child and her mother I asked our Pastor (J.B.) if
anyone had prayed for the baby in the back. He told me that we could. As I bent down to look at this baby’s face and touch her
hand, J.B. told me that her, the 4-5 yr old boy, and the other baby were all
from the same family an
d had been abandoned at this hospital by their
parents. My heart broke for these children.
After I had prayed for this little girl and had bent down to
look into her sleeping face…it was SO hard to leave!
Psalm 116:1-2 says, “I love the Lord because He hears my
voice and my prayer for mercy.
Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath.
Just as I bent down to pray for and love on that little
girl, God does that with us when we are in need. He hears our cries for help, and brings Himself down to our
level. Although there was really
nothing that I could do for those children, I know that God was bending down to
hear my cries for them. Anything
is possible with Him.
